Guidelines and Rules for Abstract Submission:

  1. Abstracts must be submitted using the Official Electronic Abstract submission Form.
  2. The official language is English.
  3. You will receive notification of receipt by email within 2 business days after your abstract bas been received.
  4. An abstract may be submitted to one section only. Do not double-submit by altering the title, and resubmitting to a second section.
  5. Each abstract is assigned a filename. Once you have submitted, you will receive a confirmation abstract number. Please reference the confirmation abstract number in any written correspondence or phone conversation regarding your abstract submission.
  6. Authors whose abstract are accepted for presentation will be expected to attend the meeting and make their presentation.
  7. Notification of acceptance or rejection of abstract will be mailed in End March 2008.
  8. Authors of abstracts accepted for presentation at the meeting may submit manuscripts for consideration for publication in the European Journal of Paediatric Surgery.

EUPSA Young Investigators Award

To stimulate research, the EUPSA has instituted two prizes for the best paper on topics on clinical or laboratory research in paediatric surgery presented by young investigators at the Annual Meeting of the European Paediatric Surgeons Association.

Instructions for Abstract Submission:

  1. Submission: by members and non-members of EUPSA are welcome.
  2. Eligibility: Abstracts are welcome on any subject related to paediatric surgery including laboratory and clinical research, patients’ series, trauma and urology, etc.
  3. Criteria: Abstracts will be judged on originality, scientific merit, study design, and clinical relevance.
  4. Originality: Please note that all material submitted must be original. No materials should be submitted that have been previously presented or published. Failure to comply in this regard or withdraw without any reason, of a paper accepted for presentation will preclude the presenter and/or senior author of the paper from presenting at the next two EUPSA meetings.
  5. Informed consent: Any study involving human subjects must conform to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki of the Word Medical Association (Clinical 57 Research 1966; 14:103) and must meet all of the requirements governing informed consent of the country in which it was performed.
  6. Animal studies: Animal studies must conform to the ethical requirements of the country in which the study was performed.
  7. Conflict of interest/disclosure: Work submitted for presentation must include an acknowledgment of funding sources of a commercial nature and/or a consulting or holding of significant equity in a company that could be affected by the results of the study. The intent of this policy is not to prevent a speaker with potential conflict of interest from making a presentation. It is merely intended that any potential conflict should be identified openly so that listeners may form their own judgements about the presentation with the full disclosure of the facts.
  8. Mailing Address: Provide the mailing address, phone and fax numbers, and email address of the first author and in case he/she is not presenting the abstract this information of the presenting author. It is the author’s responsibility to contact the EUPSA secretary at secr.eupsa@gmail.com with any address changes. Failure to inform the EUPSA means that you will not receive information about acceptance/rejection or other important information.
  9. Abbreviations: Use only standard abbreviations. Special or unusual abbreviations should be placed in parentheses after the first appearance of the full word. Numeral rather than words may be used to indicate numbers.
  10. Length: The abstract (including the abstract Title, Authors, Institutions, tables and figures) must be limited to no more then 500 words and one graphic element (if you submit a graphic element, it will not count against the 500 words).

Abstract should be ‘structured’ under the following headings:

  1. Background/Purpose
  2. Methods
  3. Results
  4. Conclusions
  5. Title: Type the title using all uppercase. Do not use abbreviations in the title. Maximum 80 characters
  6. Authors: List first (presenting) author, in case he/she does not present the abstract the presenting author, followed by co-authors.
  7. Institutions: List institution, city and country. Do not include street address or zip codes.
  8. Background: The general purpose of the study should be stated clearly and succinctly.
  9. Methods: A brief description of the study design.
  10. Results: A summary of the results presented in sufficient detail to support the conclusions. Simple tables and graphs may be included but must fit within the word limit. Data must be presented in the abstract. If appropriate, statistical relevance should be indicated.
  11. Conclusions: A statement of the conclusion based on the data presented.
  12. Cancellation Policies: If your abstract is accepted and you choose to withdraw from the program, you must submit your cancellation, in writing, to the Chairperson of the Scientific Office of EUPSA.
