ANNUAL DINNER SATURDAY 16th June: on sale TERRAZZA CAFFARELLI Palazzo Caffarelli-Clementino, Capitoline Hill, Piazza del Campidoglio – Rome The Capitoline Hill is the most sacred of the Seven Hills of Rome. Since the VI century BC, the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus Capitolinus was located upon this Hill and the surrounding area was the center of the political and religious life during the Roman Republic and Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Popes and Emperors ascended to the “Piazza” at the top of the Capitoline Hill horseback up a stepped ramp, known as Cordonata. In recent years, here have been signed the Treaties of Rome (25 March 1957) establishing the European Economic Community and, later on (29 October 2004), the Treaty establishing the Constitution of the European Union. Nowadays, the Capitoline Hill is the seat of the Municipality of Rome.
The steps, Piazza and buildings atop the Capitoline Hill were designed by Michelangelo. In front of Cordonata (steps) is the Palace of the Senate, now Office of the Mayor of Rome. It is flanked by two buildings, The Palace of the Conservatori and Palazzo Nuovo, which, together, constitute the Capitoline Museums. Palazzo Caffarelli work was begun by Ascanio Caffarelli in 1538 on family property situated close to the Palazzo dei Conservatori; it was completed after 1680. From the beginning of the 19th century till the end of the First World War the building was occupied by the Prussian Embassy. In 1918 it was taken back by the Rome City Council and partially demolished. A large terrace, (the Caffarelli Terrace) took the place of the upper floors in the Eastern wing, while the ground floor, which had been partially obliterated by excavations into the Temple of Capitoline Jupiter, was taken over by the new museum section. From Terrazza Caffarelli, you will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy the spectacular view of Rome at the sunset especially on the Roman Forum and the right bank of the Tiber. The skyline of Rome is made of domes. Cupolas, domes and cupolas yet. From the high of the Gianicolo, the Aventine Hill, from the terrace of Pincio or from the ramparts of Castel Sant'Angelo are domes - essential shapes symbolic of the City - to draw the unmistakable profile of the city, filling the space between earth and sky.
The venue can be easily reached by public transport: Bus Via del Teatro di Marcello 44, 63, 81, 95, 160, 170, 175, 204, 628, 715, 716, 780, 781. Via dei Fori Imperiali 84, 85, 87, 175, 186, 810, 850.
